Success with Sealants
Getting a good finish with nice clean edges and a sealant joint with a consistent bead can be tricky even for the experienced user. Following a few basic rules and using some of the handy sealant accessories available from ADP Diamex can help you get the perfect finish.

The Cartridge Mate tool provides a safe way to open the cartridge and to cut the nozzle with clean edges and at the correct angle. |
Always cut the nozzle just slightly wider than the gap to be sealed, the biggest mistake most people make is to cut the nozzle too wide, resulting in too much sealant being applied which makes smoothing down more difficult. |
When applying keep the cartridge at a consistent angle along the entire joint, always try to keep even pressure on the gun trigger using the longest stroke you can each time the trigger is released. The main distortions in how the sealant is applied are when the trigger has to be released and squeezed again, so try to keep this operation as smooth as possible pausing slightly until the plunger is back under pressure. As a general rule the better quality the sealant gun the better finish you will achieve, the Power Pro Gun is our favourite. |

The "Seal-Rite" Smooth-Out Tool is the best way to smooth down the sealant; this patented tool is remarkably effective and produces startling results for the novice user or tradesman alike. |
Holding the Smooth-Out Tool at around a 45° angle, press it firmly into the corner joint and pull it back along the joint, the first smooth over removes the excess sealant (always ensure the wings of the tool are firm against the corners so they remove the excess thereby stopping "tram" lines appearing either side of the joint). Wipe the edges of the tool clean with a Wonder Wipe or Paper Roll. Then repeat the process, again ensuring the tool is firmly pressed into the corners and smooth over, leaving a perfectly formed sealant joint with nice clean edges.. |
